"We Love You Paul" Paul McCartney returns to Fenway Park

June 7, 2022 Boston was met with another British invasion that marched in declaring a night of chaotic wailing. In the revolutionary city of Boston tea was not thrown, weapons were not hailed, screams were not bloody, and the only massacre that did occur was brought by Abe Laboriel Jr. annihilating dance moves during the second half of the show. Part one of a two-night event in Boston, saw a sold out venue all turn into The Fifth Beatle.

It was around 7:20 when Sir Paul McCartney greeted a crowd of shrills and echoing claps at Fenway Park. McCartney is a former member of the sixties pop and rock sensation The Beatles, as well as later forming Paul McCartney and Wings with his wife Linda and Moody Blues founder Denny Laine, and not to mention forming a toe tapping, genre altering solo career-  all facets of his career put on display during the nearly three hour event.
Starting with The Beatles number one hit of 1964, "Can't Buy Me Love", McCartney and his usual touring band invited the park to file through their stowed away lyrics and memories they've carried with them throughout their lives that maybe related to "Maybe I'm Amazed" or "We Can Work It Out" while encouraging the female audience to give him their "Best Beatle Scream". McCartney was joined on stage by guitarist and bassist Brian Ray, guitarist Rusty Anderson, drummer Abe Laboriel Jr.  percussion and keys Wix Wicken, and last but certainly not least, this tour saw Paul McCartney joined by woodwind and brass instruments, kicking into hope of some Wings Over America moments.

Through the setlist McCartney took to the audience multiple times to share intimate moments in a setting so big that the idea of intimacy  didn't seem possible.  Fans were told about The Quarrymen recording their first record for five pence. McCartney bared his heart open pouring his love for his ex-bandmates, John Lennon and George Harrison, whom both had passed away in 1980 and 2001. In honor to Lennon and Harrison McCartney performed solo to sing "Here Today", a love letter he wish he had read to his writing partner. He later shared a story about George Harrison's love for ukulele and how excited he was to show George that he had learned one of George's biggest accomplishments as a songwriter, on the instrument-
"Something".  While performing both songs McCartney encouraged everyone to tell those whom you love you love them before it's too late and asked the diverse group of listeners to "give it up" for John and George. Note, he would do this again honoring Apple Studios producer, George Martin.
A very touching tribute was made to John Lennon as McCartney had mentioned the newly released Docuseries Get Back by Peter Jackson, which saw the making of The Beatles rooftop concert and ultimately the Let It Be album. The first song of the encore saw McCartney singing with the isolated vocals, provided by Jackson and his team, of John Lennon. McCartney was hopeful with stating that singing with John again were like "old times". Sentiment and his love for his first band were a key takeaway this writer got from the show.

McCartney himself, just eleven days shy of turning 80, proved his youthfulness in head shakes, quips, and kicks all while holding his iconic violin shaped, Hofner bass and a stunning guitar with a collage of a multiracial community painting upon it. As for the audience, this concert challenges the idea of "rock'n'roll is dead" as the younger generation seemed to sweep the aisles. And as the sky started to offer rain, perhaps an alternative to concert and ballpark water prices, during "Let It Be" the audience did just that. They Let It Be, having the rain fall upon them refreshing and soaking them just as McCartney's words have done.

The name of McCartney's current tour is Got Back, as the respected musician shared that he always promises to "See you next time" and sticking to that promise amid the Covid19 Pandemic saga.
